Blog Of The Month: The Thought Card

Blog Of The Month: The Thought Card

IMG_7473
I am a newbie to WordPress. I have joined the platform on October 1st and started to post actively since last week. So far, I am enjoying the community and I already fell in love with amazing blogs. I am always in awe with blogs with authentic and original content. So, I decided to feature one blog every month and get up-close and personal with its author. I hope you like it as much as I do and that you benefit from discovering new blogs every week.  Last week, I stumble upon  The Thought Card by Danielle, D. and I instantly fell in love with it. So, I decided to reach out and learn more about her and her blog.

Can you tell me more about yourself and your blog?

Hiya, I’m Danielle a travel enthusiast, a certified t.v. binger, self-proclaimed personal finance guru, step-dancer, and blogger based in New York City. I launched The Thought Card, a lifestyle and travel blog, in April 2015 with two goals in mind – to showcase my day to day life and – to enlighten others from my travel experiences. In 2015 alone, I’ve traveled to six countries, danced professionally with a step dance company and raced in four mud runs all while maintaining a successful career. On my blog, I touch on an array of topics including budget travel, adventure, culture, life in New York City and photography. I love keeping it simple, and I take pride in engaging my audience in unique and memorable ways. You can always count on a lively discussion at TTC. Follow me at: thethoughtcard.com.

What is the meaning behind your blog name ‘TTC’?

Thought cards are notes or letters written from the heart expressing thoughts, emotions or passions. I wrote my first thought card over a year ago, and it’s something I’ve appreciated ever since. The Thought Card is a collection of my thought cards, expressing my passions, thoughts and everyday experiences both near and far.

Is blogging your profession or just a hobby? How do you mange your time to blog efficiently?

At the moment, I am a happy hobby blogger, but if the opportunity arises, I would be very interested in pursuing the professional route. Time management is essential in blogging especially since it is so time consuming. Before you know it you’ve spent over three hours: writing, proofreading, editing photos, customizing featured photos, promoting, socializing, answering comments and reading other blogs. To manage my time efficiently, at the beginning of each month, I announce to my audience 10 blog topics to look out for in the coming month. This is a great technique because it 1) acts as a flexible blog calendar, 2) allows my audience to see what I have in store for the upcoming month and 3) keeps me accountable.

Where do you see your blog in a year?

cropped-cropped-cropped-ttc-logo-doneA year from now, I would love to successfully co-host blog Meetups in the NYC area. Aspiring bloggers would be able to meet locals with similar blogging interest, share tips and tricks, and solicit feedback. This Meetup group would encourage reaching blog goals and promote success! Also, a year from now, I would love to see my photographs featured on other blogs or sites. As an amateur photographer, this would be a dream come true to know that my photos are noteworthy and inspiring.

What piece of advise would you give to aspiring bloggers

When reading other blogs, the best way to find like-minded or other bloggers with similar interests is to pay close attention to the “share this” section. WordPress has a very cool feature where all the bloggers who like a specific blog post are displayed. Randomly visit these blogs, and you’ll discover new blogs to follow, and you might gain new followers along the way.

You are an avid traveller. How do you fund your travel and how far in advance do you start planning?

All of my travels are self-funded. Every pay period I save a fixed amount in my travel fund. I prefer to plan my travels anywhere between 6-9 months in advance. This gives me ample time to research budget accommodations, best places to eat in the area, and sightseeing options.

Where are you headed next?

I’ll be vacationing on the lovely island of Barbados for a week in November!
